The long cherished dream of starting a college in the predominantly tribal dominated Panchpir Sub-division (Karanjia) came in to existence in July 1964. It was possible due to the active up-manship and dedication of the generous public of Panchpir Sub-division in general and the then S.D.O. Sri D.Mohanty and D.F.O. Sri Gour Mohan Das in Particular. Donation for the college poured in from all quarters of which special mention may be made of the Panchayat Samities, Primary Teachers’ Association and students of M.E. and High Schools. The college started functioning with 64seats in P.U. Arts fromthe session 1964-65 was affiliated to Utkal University. In due course different faculties are added phase wise as detailed in the following table.

Classes were held in the Premises of the present Hostel No-2 building till 1975, When the college took possession of the defunct E.T School where the college is functioning at present, later ten acres of forest land adjacent to the building was transferred to the college by the Government.Gradually a Science block , Post matric Girls, Hostel, T.R.W. Hostel, UGC Women’s Hostel and some residential quarters for the Principal, and the staff have been constructed. With the change of education pattern the college got affiliated of Council of Higher Secondary Education from the session 1983-84. Since July 11, 1999 the college has been affiliated to the North Orissa University, Baripada, Mayurbhanj. The college has been Conducting postgraduate coaching classes in Oriya, Political Science, History, Philosophy and Economics Since 1993-94 to 2001-2002.The University Grants Commission has been pleased to open Remedial coaching Programme from 1996-1999. The Govt. has been pleased to open Vocational courses in office management and Secretarial Practice since 1996 at +3 level and +2 Vocational Courses from the session 2007-2008. The college has opened Diploma Course in Computer Application in association with Computer Point from 1997 to 2000 and since 2001 in association with L.C.C. The IGNOU has been pleased to select this college as a special study centre from the session 2007-2008. Karanjia College is located at the outskirts of the meandering Deo river which tumbles down majestically from the foothills of the Similipal forests. The woodland grace of the Similipal National Park with its rare flora and fauna has attracted the tourists for sight seeing and the researchers for exploring the untapped areas of History, Anthropology, Culture and Literature. On the otherside, the unique Khiching Temple stands vibrant with history. The stones of the temple depict art and poetry of ancient Orissa. In close vicinity to National Highway 6, Karanjia is well connected with Baripada, Keonjhar, Jajpur , Bhadrak , Tata, Calcutta, and Bhubaneswar by road. The teachers, students, guardians and well-wishers keep on striving to make this old institution an advanced centre of study and research in the state. The immortal lines from the Poem of Robert Frost inspire the young generation to leave the foot prints of success for the posterity -
